Chief Jay Strong
Jay Strong was appointed Chief of Police of the Tye Police Department on June 1, 2016. Prior to his appointment, Chief Strong was the School Resource Officer for the Merkel Independent School District. He began his career with the Tye Police Department in 2014 as a reserve patrol officer after attending the West Central Texas Council of Governments Law Enforcement Academy.
Chief Strong is originally from Lafayette, Indiana, but is the first to admit that while he wasn't born in Texas, he got here as fast as he could! Chief Strong’s distinguished military career in the United States Air Force spans 22 years, where he was named the Lance P. Sajin award winner, the Air Force’s highest
leadership honor to an airman; he was named outstanding Man of America by the US Congress; was STEP promoted to MSgt, and was named First Sergeant of the Year. During his last assignment at MacDill Air Force Base, he lead 1400 Air Force and Army Security Forces personnel.
Chief Strong has two associates’ degrees in Human Resources and Logistics Management. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice (Summa Cum Laude) from Arizona State University.
